Events, Meetings, Field Days
Details of Sydney Bee Club’s upcoming events as well as bees related events from other organisations are listed to the left or below. Please register Sydney Bee Clubs events through Eventbrite. Here is a small summary, more details to be found on Eventbrite.
Apiary Field Days are held in Spring, Summer, an early autumn in Randwick community centre. We demonstrate how to manipulate bees, perform brood and disease check ups, honey harvest, swarm prevention, and winter preparation. In any case it replace a full course that has to be done before to acquire a hive It is important to pre-register / book for field days (as numbers in the apiary are limited).
Note: We are not able to accommodate children under 8 at the apiary field days. Children from 9 to 15 years must be supervised by a responsible guardian/adult and have their own protective suit (we don’t have children’s suits to hire at this stage).

We will examine the Langstroth hive and the Warré hive. You will be able to take part in a brood inspection, look for signs of disease, how to deal with these and revise general good beekeeping practices. Also learn the importance of an alcohol wash and how to perform one.
You can use your own clean freshly laundered protective gear. Or you can hire protective gear for $10 from the club. Please wear gloves (these can be rubber gloves) long trousers, long sleeved top with a high collar, closed in shoes with socks underneath your bee suit. You may wear your own beekeeping gear but it should be clean. You may bring your own gloves but please ensure they are spotlessly clean, no residue from other hives. This avoids the risk of cross infection.
There will be opportunities to ask questions, exchange ideas, share your experiences, and meet other bee friendly people.
